What is endometriosis?
or endo as its often called
Endometriosis is a chronic medical condition where tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus, called the endometrium, grows outside the uterus. This misplaced tissue is most often found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other pelvic structures; however, it has been found on every organ and anatomical structure in the body. During the menstrual cycle, this tissue thickens, breaks down, and bleeds, leading to inflammation and pain. Common symptoms include severe menstrual cramps, pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, and fertility issues. Although there are many, many more. The exact cause of endometriosis is unknown, but factors like retrograde menstruation, genetic predisposition, and immune system disorders are considered potential contributors. Diagnosis often involves pelvic exams, ultrasounds, and laparoscopy. While there's no cure, treatments like pain management, hormone therapy, and surgery can help manage symptoms.
